Thanks to all who have given suggestions for finding newspapers, etc of the
day. Yes, the correct time period should be 1896-1898. Apparently, Thomas
SPEIGHT was, before becoming Mayor, founder and owner of the Burlington
Works, a large wool manufacturing/wool combing factory in Thornbury. I
suppose this factory was just one of many, but if anyone knows anything of
it, I would be pleased to know. Thank you,
