The parish of Grafham is indeed in Huntingdonshire, and is about 18 miles to the south of Perterborough. There is a parish page at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HUN/Grafham/index.html, which has an interactive map on it, and a list of census, church regisres, and manumental inscriptions available from the Huntingdonshire FHS. There is also a map of all the parishes of Huntingdonshire at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HUN/, which is also the county genealogical page for the region.

Yaxley is about 10 to 12 miles to the northeast of Grafham towards Peterborough (of which it is now part), and also has a parish page at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HUN/Yaxley/index.html. If you look at these parish pages, and the county page, you will see both Grafham and Yaxley and can see the distance between them. Both were close to the Great North Road (the Roman Ermine Street) so travel would not have been that difficult.

Subject: WHITEHEAD

Dear List members,
I am still searching for my grandmother's birth place, and for information
about her family.
My grandmother was Elizabeth WHITEHEAD and she was born in 1860, somewhere
in the Peterborough area according to anecdotal information. I think I have
found her brother, John, and his family in Yaxley, in the 1881 census. (I
know that she had a brother John who lived in Yaxley). According to the
census, John was born in Grafham in 1847. Is Grafham anywhere near
Peterborough? I can't find it on my map.
Their father's name was Thomas. Does anyone have access to the 1861 census
which covers this area, who could look up Thomas WHITEHEAD and family for me.
I've tried the look-up exchange, but can't seem to get any responses. I
really would be awfully grateful for any information.
Thank you in advance.
Margaret, in NH USA
