I know that my Lincolnshire ancestors went to Kent in the late 1800's
because of military service. My Cambridgeshire ancestors went to
London because that's where the work was, particularly if you were
skilled (carpenter, blacksmith, boilermaker, etc.) Shipbuilding drew a
lot of skilled and semi-skilled men to harbour towns.
