Jean et al,
I think we are suffering, if you will excuse the statement, from
Americanisantion. With the size of the various states comprising the USA it
is sebsible to break a list into those areas. What somebody has failed to
realise is that most of the counties in England fit into most American
states with a lot of room to spare. Movement between English counties
equates tomovement between American townships. Hence the situation of
cross border families that we all suffer from. The Fens especially suffers
from the fact that much of it was unihabited until after the mid-1700's and
people lived on the 'edge' (not the current connotation I hasten to add')
which bounded the counties we all see. The FENS list is vital for that
reason. Concentration of LISTS by county in this instance serves a limited
purpose.
I am preparing a report for Ancestry.com which I proffered at the Family
History Experience. I have already indicated to them that they will have to
change their thinking for the UK side and I think this may be a prime
example of influence without knowledge.
Hopefully Robyn will acquire the list and life will be as before<g>. I must
offer my profound thanks for her willingness to try and help resolve this
problem by managing two lists.
ADVERT: Anyone in the WARRINGTON area wishing to discuss genealogy over a
pint is more than welcome next Monday or Tuesday night at the Park Royal
Hotel.... boredom threshold low...<vbg>

I for one plan to remain on the English Fens list. My relatives did not
stay neatly put in their Cambridgeshire village but moved all over the
FENS. Part of the problem is their village is right down at that little
point where Suffolk, Essex and Cambs all come together. They also were in
Huntingdonshire and Norfolk. This list covers it all for me.
