What a shame!
However, people should be aware that it is not just the sale of land that
can cause problems. As a Councillor for Sawston, one of the problems that
our groundstaff have is grass cutting where stones are damaged and broken to
stumps. Obviously these can be quite a hazard. On my many stumblings
around graveyards one solution that many churches have resorted to is to
remove the stones and place them around the churchyard walls. This seems to
be a good solution. It also very often serves to protect the stones as they
are not so open to the elements of the weather.
It seems to me that perhaps from English-Fens we could start a campaign to
have the stones saved and placed somewhere appropriate. Is there anybody
out there who knows the village well and could come up with a location?
Does anybody know if there are any local campaigners on the case?
