Greetings
Cliff was right, the Roman name for Godmanchester was DUROLIPUS, and the
spelling of Godmanchester varied over the centuries -
Godmundcestre (xi cent.), Gutmuncetre, Gudmencestre, Gumencestre, Guncestre
(xii cent.), Gumecestre, Gudmundcestre (xiii cent.), Godmanchester (xiv
cent.).
this information from the Godmanchester page -
