Amazing, I still had the original message on file, here is what Jim said
on 16 Oct 2002:

Cuzzins!

Imagine my surprise when, after the message that came to the list the
other
day, and my subsequent response, I opened my latest issue of the New
York
Genealogical and Biographical Record, and the lead article was about the

Willemsen ang Gerritsen families of Kings County, NY and Cape May,
Monmouth,
Somerset and Middlesex Counties in NJ. The article, found on pages
163-176,
discusses the origins of the family and provides very useful documentary

evidence to assist the reader in understanding the conclusions. Of
particular note, however, is the first paragraph (ii) on page 172:

"Maria/Mary, b. say 1697, m. about 1715 Carol Dorland, bapt. Flatbush 22
Mar.
1695, son of Gerrit and Cornelia ([de] Beauvois) Dorland. [fn omitted]
Children (Dorland), bap. Jamaica: Gerrit 26 Aug. 1716 (wit. Cornelis
Willemse, Magtel Willemse), Cornelia 10 Oct. 1717, Jannetje 29 Mar.
1719,
Sara 2 Apr. 1721, Geertie 11 Mar. 1725, Elizabet 5 Mar. 1727. [fn
omitted]"

Elizabet is, almost certainly, Elizabeth Durlin, referred to in John
Enyart's
will of 1748, which was proved in 1763.

As I mentioned in my earlier note, I had gotten online and checked
RootsWeb
for clues and found in one file that someone had linked Mary (John's
wife) to
the Snedekers, but that this connection was likely incorrect as there
were
inconsistencies with regard to the information and lack of documentary
evidence. HOWEVER, another file at RootsWeb noted that one Charles
Dorland
shows Mary's surname unidentified but clearly identifies Charles [Carel]

Dorland with the correct parents and all the children listed for him are

consistent with the above-referenced NYGBR article.

Of particular import to us Enyarts is the fact that in searching further
for
information on Elizabeth, I find evidence that she died July 1, 1797 in
Stokes, Surrey Co., NC, and that her husband, Gideon Wright, died in
Charleston, SC.

While there remains some additional research to be performed in order to

shore up the shadow of doubt, it would appear that at long last --
through
the efforts of Aline Garretson and her article in the NYGBR -- we now
know
the identity of Mary Durlin, previously called Mary Pietersen Darling.

For source citation and information purposes, SEE The New York
Genealogical
and Biographical Record, Vol. 133, No. 3 (July 2002), pp. 163-176, and
the
article will be continued in the October issue which we will see in
December
or January.

Happy researching.

Jim Raywalt
