Leavesden is in Hertfordshire near Watford.

I can't find any reference to Amerley on any old maps that I have. However
there is a place called ANERLEY which is situated in SE London. Near the
site of Crystal Palace (destroyed in 1936). North of Croydon.

Perhaps that is where you should be looking.
