I can recommend two Halls of Residence in London.

Rosebery Hall on Rosebery Avenue and Hughes Parry Hall on Cartwright
Gardens.

Rosebery has the advantage that it is absolutely right next to the Family
Records Centre - I could look down from my window to see people beavering
away looking at the Death Indexes! However, at night time there are not
that many cheap and cheerful places to eat nearby.

Hughes Parry is about 20 minutes walk from the FRC in Bloomsbury, it is in a
pleasant central location and has a great variety of eating places to suit
all pockets and tastes just on the doorstep. There is also an interesting
secondhand bookshop just down the street.

If you are going to Yorkshire there is a place in the Yorkshire Dales run by
an ardent genealogist who has rooms to let with genealogical library and
research centre attached! Can't lay my hands on details at the moment but
an Internet search (on Google?) might bring up details. Think there might
be an advert in Family Tree Magazine.

Hope these vague bits of information are of assistance.
