Mary's postings listing records from Gilberdyke, etc. got me wondering where
all of those places might be located in (East Riding)Yorkshire. One posting
also referenced Owstrop, I believe, but I am not sure why. Any how, here is
some reference info that may help.

From Baine's Directory of the County of York (1823):

EASTRINGTON PARISH
"EASTRINGTON, a parish in the wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire; 4 miles
ENE. of Howden...Population, 375."

"GILBERDYKE, in the parish of Eastrington, wapentake and liberty of
Howdenshire; 5 1/2 miles ENE. of Howden. Pop. including Hive & Sandholm, 640."

"HIVE, in the parsih of Eastrington, wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire; 4
miles ENE. of Howden."

"OWSTROP, in the parish of Eastrington, wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire,
3 1/2 miles ENE. of Howden."

"SANDHOLME, in the parish of Eastrington, wapentake and liberty of
Howdenshire; 4 1/2 miles ENE. of Howden."

HOWDEN PARISH
"KNEDLINGTON, in the parish of Howden, wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire; 1
mile W. of Howden... Population, 118."

"BELBY, in the parish of Howden, wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire; 1.5
miles ENE. of Howden. Pop. 49."

"BOOTHFERRY, in the parish of Howden...2 miles SW. of Howden."

SOUTH CAVE PARISH
"South Cave, a parish in the wapentake of Harthill, and liberty of St.
Peter's; ...9 [miles] from Beverley; 12 from Hull; and 28 from York; situated
in a hollow...at the western foot of the Wolds...about three miles from the
river Humber. The parish is very extensive and comprehends [sic] the townships
of South Cave, Broomfleet, Faxfleet and Osmandyke, and is bounded on the
south, for a very considerable way, by the Humber. [The estate of the mansion
house at Cave Castle once was possessed in part by John Washington, great-
grandfather of George Washington, who emigrated to America in about 1657].
Population, 885."

Listed within the parish are: Broomfleet, Faxfleet, Mount Airey, Province Fee
(or Provosts's Fee) and Weedley.

ROWLEY PARISH, located in the wapentake of Harthill, lies 3 1/2 miles ENE. of
South Cave. Population 425

Thanks to Gordon Kirkemo for ordering the films. Maybe they will shed some
light.
