A check of my Essex County CD yields the following:

From The Hammatt Papers: Early Inhabitants of Ipswich, Massachusetts, 1633 -
1670 by Abraham Hammatt:

pg 124 -- a reference to Thomas & Richard Holmes purchasing land in Rowley
fromThomas & Martha Harris

pg 157 -- "HOLMES, Robert. In March, 1677, Hester Holmes, relict and
administrator of Robert Holmes; inventory less than 20 pounds, clear estate;
two children. The Court order the estate to be left to her for the bringing
up of the children.
James Holmes 2, and Mary his wife, had:
James, born June 27, 1694

Robert Holmes 2, and Sarah Wastcut, married January 4, 1701.
Their son -----
Francis, born March 14, 1706. He became a physician.

Dr. Francis Holmes 3, published with Mary Gibson, March 29, 1732

Here is interred

in the 53 Year
of his Age

pg 163 -- Ebenezer Hovey, baptized Sept 30, 1744, m 1, Sally Holmes

There are 11 other references to Holmes and 8 references to Oliver Wendell
Holmes on this CD.
