Subject: Re: Birth Dates vs. Baptism Dates

Hello Alison:
Still relatively new at this genealogy business. When I first started, I
thought thet "bp" meant "born Prior" to the date shown. As I saw more and
more "bp" callouts, I finally looked at the Essex VR CD definitions, and found
it meant "baptized", and found several instances where siblings were all
baptized on the same date: viz: Joseph Hodges Choate, noted lawyer, and
ambassador to England, was shown as "bp April 20, 1848". Then I discovered
that Caroline,Sarah Elizabeth, and William Gardner, all shown with parents
:George and Margaret" were also "bp Apr 20, 1848" Rea;izing there were no
quadruplets in that Choate Line, I dug for the definition. Interestingly, on
the same line, recently I received several extractions on the Choate line, and
they stated "by profession", which, I suspect alluded to the fact that they
had "professed" their faith? My mother had an expression when I was a
youngster, that when I got out of line, she referred to me as a "bad penny".
So, take your choice!

Yours in pursuit of the "right" answer":
