My pet whinge about the list - and lists in general - is not so much that
people do not say "thank you", but that we rarely see the "final" answers
to so many interesting questions!

Someone asks a question - say, about interpreting a place-name or a parish.
A number of us get out our various reference books and maps, and
individually send off a suggestion or two to the enquirer. Maybe we all
have the same ideas, maybe not. I would dearly love to know what the final
outcome is in such cases. It all goes into the little grey cells, or into a
notebook, for future reference. And there is always the pleasure in knowing
that you were able to help someone and that you were (hopefully) right with
your answer!

One case stands out in my mind. I spent some time trying to interpret a
place-name from a census entry. I sent off a few suggestions, only to see
two days later that the list member was unsubscribing!

So, more answers please!
