Hi Jim,
Here are all the Matthew GILLETTs in the UK in 1881, which may help you with
elimination. The one in the workhouse appears to have his wife there too! I
have not done a wildcard search of the REgional CDs for variations, which
may be worth it - you need a very wide imagination. There are rather more
Margaret GILLETTs around, including one I've put below. If you could give
the names of your gfather and his uncle, it would help.
