cor! an wots more dozydoats an all that!
A friend lent me a book yesterday..its called 'The Face of London'.dated a
bit, as it is written in the present tence, in the late fifties, so it is
not so accurate today..But it gives a fascinating insight into London. A lot
like John Stow did in the 12th century..a great book that one!
anyway one thing Harold Clune does, is give one of the best descriptions of
Canning Town and the Royal docks, I have ever read. He goes into the history
of each area, and even gives the cost of many of the buildings etc.
I only read that section last night, so I look forward to reading the other
400 odd pages on the rest of London..He set the book out in a series of
'walks and drives' and Canning town was included in walk number 18. Great
I have a great many books on London, and love to read them over and over!
Thank goodness its Monday.
