Hello!
I am new to the list and I am in the unenviable position of looking for a William Smith!!
William Smith was my great-grandfather and both family folklore and the 1901census say he was born in Coggeshall/Coggesshall (second being census spelling).
My father says he was born on William's 70th birthday (his favourite grandfather) this would mean a birth date of 5th February 1861. Over a number of years I have searched for this combination but to no avail.
From the late 1890's William Smith was working as a monumental stone mason at 54 High Street, Plumstead, Woolwich, and then from Hope Cottage 44 King's Highway again Woolwich. Family myth also suggests his father/Essex family connected to slaughterhouse/butchers business. Help! Help offeredif possible in exchange
