I don't think there is anything wrong with a bit of fun David. These lists
are very important as far as Family History go but I think they also serve
another important function as a cultural mixing pot. I am old enough to
remember when Australian culture was still very much British based. I can
recall when the first take-away (besides fish and chips) came to our town.
It was Chinese. Then when the Pizza shop started it was a real big deal!
These days Australia is truly multi-cultural. I think it is very
interesting to see how our early traditions have been changed and added to -
as an added bonus, seeing which cultural streams went where may even help in
tracking our family histories ie, Irish and Scots often settled in different
parts of a city.

We don't know where my great, great grandfather came from originally, except
that he was of British descent (possibly Irish). We do know that he was
living in Little Cambridge, Essex when he applied to emigrate. I love to
see the little cultural bits and pieces on the list. It gives me a feel for
the "life and times" and possible reasons why. Sometimes the why is just as
important as the how. Life is full of unanswered questions (sigh) - like
why I just dropped veggie soup all over my keyboard.:(
