Dear Colleen,
Thank you for the hagiography (look it up). I will attach it to my C.V.
It may mean that Martyn will consider me a serious historian, rather
than a populist.
Constable 354 "Saw" Smith of Peldon (named after his funny handwriting)
was promoted sergeant the following day, after taking the surrender of
the crew. He was renamed "Zepp" for the rest of his service and died,
very old, at Great Dunmow. I have never heard that the crew were other
than disciplined and no-one was hurt by them.
You need to visit the museum to see the artefacts from both crashes and
the photos and Martyn's leaflet. In your peregrinations you might also
visit the Cater Museum in Billericay High street, they have some things
from the L32 crash from the same time. Did you like the (free) Jam
Museum at Tiptree?
