I'm away from base right now, but I remember that a new vicar came to
Tillingham in the later 19thC. At that point it had no proper sewage system
or water supply, and this vicar combined with one of the non-conformist
ministers in a successful campaign to get these installed. At that time
Tillingham, which is not the world's largest village, had four
non-conformist groups as well: the Methodists, the Baptists, the
Congregationalists and the Peculiar People.
Peacocke strikes a slight chord of memory - possibly I've seen his name in
the PR during the 18thC (all that large squiggly writing that was the
fashion then). It's usually possible to work out from the PR who was
actually there and doing the work, for example from marriages, and there's
often an announcement when a new guy arrives. If nobody else has managed to
do so, I can have a quick look next week when I am back home again.
