Subject: New INTEREST - Wickham (Plus Wilding, littlechild, Evans & lagden)
Date: Sun, 2 Mar 2003 00:26:40 -0000
Hi all,
I have found the fourth grandparent name today, hooray! A little coaxing of my father works a treat.
Anyway, the name is Wickham. There are strong links to Romford as usual, but few Wickhams, few show in the 1881 and 1901 census. So, these families all enter Romford, the Capital of London and Essex (no geography lessons please), sometime after 1890,
Useful pointers are Ejezer is the middle name of the Evans member (Arthur E Evans), allegedly a family name, any ideas?
The Wickhams appear to be prevalent in Leytonstone, and also Walthamstow around this period, any links to the Evans in your histories?
Wildings come through Chelmsford from Suffolk, but no biirths have been apparent so far in many of the Chelmsford areas.
Finally, the only strong lead so far is the Littlechilds who come through Doddinghurst, Kelvedon Hatch and then Dagenham to Romford during the cheap imports age from America in the 1870's, and thus killing off a large part of our farming community. Lagdens also follw a similar link, and a marriage in the family in 1819 has started a one-family search out of pure interest, and because no one else is doing this.
For reference, I have created lots of data of these on my pages at http://kevw.net
Back to the Wickham family, has anyone got any ideas where to start with this?
Any feedback is welcome.
Best
kevan
