I cannot imagine a tree of that size as close to the beach as the sea
front hotels and cannot imagine a four horse rig going down Pier Hill.
It looks to me as if it could be the Royal Hotel at the top of Pier
Hill. I used an 1820 painting of the coach stopping there in the
magazine a few issues back.
A few years ago there was a Grand Pier Hotel about 50 yards east of it,
but that was fairly modern and got swallowed by the Royals Shopping
Centre. We will seek further advice.

PS Heather is asking who is the "et al" you think I am living with.
