Subject: [E-Jewish] LEVI, STERN, STARR, SCHWARZSCHILD, HOCHSCHILD families
Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2000 17:19:12 EST

I am looking for descendents of Hindle
or Hannah STERN or STARR, originally
from Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse, Hessen,
who married a ? LEVI possibly in
Portsmouth, Ohio.

She had at least one child (maybe more).
Emanuel (Mannie) LEVI who moved to Zanesville,
Ohio and ran a clothing store with his cousin Abram E
(known as AE) STARR.

Mannie and his wife Beulah brought up one
child, Leo M LEVI (18 March 1901 Zanesville-
25 December 1950 Los Angeles or Pasadena),
a physician and medical researcher who remained
single.

I wish to find out whether Mannie LEVI had any brothers
or sisters.

His mother Hannah was a daughter of Gottfried STERN
(1784-1838 Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse,
Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany) and Nannchen
HOCHSCHILD (1787 Gross Rohrheim - 1857
Heppenheim) - I have yet to trace the HOCHSCHILD
line).

I am also missing other lines in the family
tree, indicated by the word "missing below".

Gottfried and Nannchen had seven children:

1) Salomon STERN (1810-1880 Heppenheim)
married Jette or Henriette MAIERFELD or
MAYERFELD or MEYERFELD (1813 Biebesheim,
Kreis Gross Gerau-1886 Heppenheim).
No children of this marriage are known. MISSING

2) Feist STERN (1812-1889 Heppenheim) married:

i) Jette WEIS (1812 or 15 Mainz Hechtsheim-1849 Heppenheim)
Children:
Eva STERN (born March 7 1845 Heppenheim) MISSING
Jette STERN (born June 17 1849 Heppenheim) MISSING

ii) Jeanette MAIERFELD or MAYERFELD or MEYERFELD
(born 1823 Biebesheim died 1878 Heppenheim).
Children:
Moses STERN(born 31 October 1850 Heppenheim). MISSING
Abraham STERN (born July 5 1853 Heppenheim) MISSING
Mina STERN (born July 11 1855 Heppenheim) MISSING
married Moses SCHWARZSCHILD
of Massenheim, now part of Hochheim am Rhein.
Malchen STERN (born June 7 1857) MISSING
Anna STERN (born April 18 1859) MISSING

3) Mendel STERN (March 27 1815 Heppenheim) MISSING

4) Heimann STERN (later Henry STARR) line traced
Abram E STARR was a son of Henry. Abram's son
Harry STARR worked at one time for STERN
Brothers department store in 42nd Street,
New York. I do not know if this is a connection
or coincidence and as yet do not know anything
about the founders of this department store.

4) Mameth STERN (January 25 1850 Heppenheim) MISSING

5) Guthal STERN (April 22 1823 Heppenheim) MISSING

6) Hindle or Hannah STERN (April 7 1825 Heppenheim -1891) MISSING
married ? LEVI in Portsmouth, Ohio, USA?
Her nephews Abraham and Moses STERN may have
gone to stay with her in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The family seems to have been connected with Newark, Ohio, New
York, St Louis, Missouri and Washington DC as well as Portsmouth
and Zanesville.

Please contact me if you think there is a connection or you
believe you know of any of these families or any information
you think will be useful.
