Hi Jane,

Your method *may* work but wow! it is very prone to error! An automatic
method is of course overdue <grin> and I hope Simon realises what a bugbear
it is for all of his users. Let us hope that he can work it into the very
next update. I, for one, would rather Version 2.1 was late rather than have
it missing, or in Version 2.2! Another problem, which Jane *does* not
address is where although the two RIN's look alike, they contain
conflicting information. In this case, I suppose we must refuse to merge
them, or add a note to the merged record?

In a similar vein, there are several web sites where GEDCOM utility links
occur. I heartily recommend a visit there (Use www.google.co.uk and look
for "GEDCOM utility")

It includes utilities (plural) to remove most details of those still alive,
comparing GEDCOM files,

http://help.surnameweb.org/gedprog.htm

is one of my favourite URL's.

Look an analyze and Ged Commander while you are there.

Best wishes,

Phil.
