Subject: RE: [FHU] Census information - viewing problem in XP with IE 6

Sorry, but continuing this slightly off-topic thread:
I too have problems with the plug-in viewer that downloads from the 1901
Census site. After viewing an image, I find that my Windows session is
somewhat screwed up - cannot save the image, cannot do anything with the
viewer controls, etc. I too get around such problems by saving the
image and not using their on-line viewer.
I e-mailed the Census people late last year about this but their only
response was to suggest that I upgrade to the latest level of Windows
software. My software was up to date at the time and I am now on XP HE
Service Pack 1 and IE 6.0.2800 (SP 1 version), but the problem still
exists. I don't get this problem with any other site, so my guess is
that there is a bug of sorts in their downloadable software, or in the
bits of IE that they use.
If anyone knows how to get this problem fixed, please e-mail me
off-list.
Thanks
Roger Horton

Val,
My computer too seems to be incompatible with the viewer - so don't use
it.
Just right click on the link (where it says "right click here") and
"Save
target As". Then view offline - much easier in the long run.
