In addition to Simon's response, I'd add the following (just having done
what you want).

The principle
==========
You don't create a new file of marked individuals; instead you discard from
your existing file all *unmarked* individuals.

The danger (Clearly stated in the manual and dialog box)
========
You may discard individuals from your working file. So, it's worth
emphasisiing Simon's point: you must make a copy to work on and open the
copy.

The nice feature
============
The selection (marking) can be done using any query that exists or that you
care to invent. The query system is capable of doing very smart things (but
the manual is essential reading because of the flexibility).

So far, it's only been used here for creating subsets of the entire GEDCOM
file for distant relatives with particular interests. It does this very
effectively.
