I agree with the issue raised about recording non-marriage partnerships of
all types. However, moving away from a standard is fraught with difficulties
unless you never swap data with others. Look at the trouble that is caused
by non-compliance with the GEDCOM standard by other programs.
The proper solution is probably not achievable: persuading the guardians of
GEDCOM to actually finish GEDCOM-XML. They made a start but seem to have
abandoned it.
