Congrats, Shirley!
I know that the post office doesn't like the staples, and they also make
opening the newsletter (without tearing it) difficult. I have used scotch
tape at both ends of the open side of the newsletter, but the best thing
I've found is the wafer seals through communication resources. They have
several types: round, perforated and Butterfly Wafer Seals. They hold even
thicker newsletters more securely. If you're interested, you can check
further at

securing it with Avery all purpose labels but they started coming loose
during sorting - before we even made it to the post office. We wound up
stapling which was not my preference. We even placed the newsletters under
books for pressure to flatten them as much as possible.
