Hi Ann,
In other words, you're going to be doing a newsletter for anyone
(whether a known relative or not) who carries your surname. Right?
Well, you start with an announcement of the newsletter and how it came
about...why you decided the world needs a newsletter for the RAMBO (or
whatever) family. In that I would think you'd mention what you hope it will
accomplish for you and or other readers. Of course, you have to say that
you can't do it alone but need the help of everyone named Rambo, that they
can tell you something of their family history and where to and where from
and when their Rambo family came to the US and maybe what their work was.
You might start out with publishing all the Rambo families found in the
NYC City directories for several years; and from a census (pick a year and a
state or several so you'll get a good list); maybe mention something from
the Internet. Plan to publish lists of stray Rambo people as you or anyone
else finds them.
Of course what the name Rambo (or whatever) means and where were its
origins. All the spellings of the name that you can think of .... will your
newsletter be just for RAMBO or will it also include Rambeaux, Rambeau,
Rambow, etc.? Something to go with that about any possible Soundex codes
and variations.
Certainly something about your family, where they came from and when and
why they emigrated from their homeland, where they settled in the US...in
more than one area? Any other spellings within your family?
My inclination would be not to get into recipes in a Surname newsletter
unless there are some that are really, really firmly connected to your
family name or ethnicity or your particular family hsitory. I'm sure you
are specially tuned to noticing your surname in any publication. I'd copy
them wherever you find them and use them in the newsletters....whether in
newspapers or in fiction.
You may have thought of most of this, but I hope there's something
new that helps.
Good luck! It's a great idea and I wish you lots of success. Tell us the
surname and I'm sure we'll all help to advertise it for you.
Nancy
