I like the idea of using the "memory stick". I have seen them advertised
and wondered how good they would be. If they work properly, I can see where
they would be great for storage of your data and being able to download it
on another computer, especialy if you are traveling.

I agree with you. I use to use the GEDCOM to rebuild my database to
eliminate all the blank numbers. But, after having so much trouble
realigning my photos with the rin number, I decided to start making changes
by hand and not merging or deleting. I use the name "Unused" as the
individuals name. At this point I have about 55 individuals with that name.
Then when I add a new family, when adding the children, I pick up the
"Unused" name for the child. If they have six children, I pick up 6 names
real quick. Then I go back and add the names and dates. This, like you
say, uses all the numbers and keeps from having blanks. It most importantly
preserves the photos in their proper place.
It is good to see that someone else is using the Record number for their
photos. It sure saves a lot of problems when you have a number of people
with the same name. Also many programs still use the 8 digit file system
which also limits using names.
