Hi Florence,
You are correct in assuming that a land warrant was issued as payment for
serving in the Revolutionary War. I found a new book (to me) the other day
that deals only with Revolutionary War Records, and it has a lot of info
about bounty warrants. The title is Revolutionary War Records Virginia, by
Gaius March Brumbaugh, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1997 (I think). I
copied parts but need to go back and take a harder look. There were
citations for Thomas Ferrell (also spelled Farrell), Zephaniah Farrall,
Dennis Ferrell, Edmund Farrell (and spelled Ferrell) (Thomas and Edmund were
brothers and Edmund was listed as Thomas's "heir at law", and I think their
bounty land was in Ohio), and Isaac Farrell. James might not have fought in
the War, but he could have inherited the land. I am not certain whether or
not the government had issued land by 1814 when he died. Does anyone have
that info?
I am still very interested in this James Ferrell of yours as I think he and
his Thomas or William might have been my ancestors. I will keep watching
your postings with interest.
