Subject: [FEATHERSTONE] A circular walk past Featherstone Castle

Hi all,
Just spent a week in Northumberland. In the local tourist information place
picked up a free leaflet entitles Walks in the North Pennines -
Featherstone.
A 4 mile circular walk. Pictures of the castle, how to get there by bus, car
parking and eating at The Wallace Arms - Featherstone Rowfoot.
The only family history in the leaflet is the tale of Baron
Featherstonehaugh and the marriage of his daughter Abigail that ended in a
fight in which the jilted lover and his friends, and the groom and wedding
guests died. So every year the castle is haunted by the baron and his wife
waiting in vain for the wedding party to return.
Available from Northumberland Countryside Service, Northumberland County
Council, Morpeth, NE61 2EF.
