Hi Paul,
But have you checked the actual film of the 1881 census, or are you going by
the CD- Bromley from Brenchley could and would be an easy transcription
error.

Paul,
My reason for dismissing this George as being George the baker/ grandfather
of the electrical business Fred is that in the 1881 census he appears
(birthplace Brenchley) as well as George the baker (birthplace Bromley) who
is actually at the bakery in Tunbridge Wells.

I will look at the 1871 census for Tunbridge Wells next to see if he is
there.
The age in the 1871 census and 1881 census for George born in Brenchley does
fit in better than the 1881 George (born in Bromley) - there are 2 years in
it. The mother of George, born in Bromley was called Rebecca which points
away from the Brenchley George, and I did find George with John in the
workhouse at St Mary Cray, Kent in the 1851 census - I am sure both their
parents were dead.
70 and 72 The Parade, Speldhurst in now commonly known as 70 and 72 The
Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells - and is still a bakery. I have a tape recording
of one of the grandchildren of George recounting his days in the bakery.
I seem to have written a lot - hope it makes sense

Paul,
What are your reasons for dismissing this George, since the age on both
census tallies, also his wife is some nine year older and could well have
been deceased by 1881. I have yet to transcribed the deaths from the FRO
index for 1871-1880 although I do have them on micro tapes- it might prove
useful to see if there is a death of a Mary in Ticehurst district between
the two census.

Hi,
I had a look in the 1871 census yesterday for Ticehurst and came up with the
following:
The reference for the 1871 census for Ticehurst is RG10 1046 (4)
I found:
Rosemary Lane
18 John BLUNT head M 67 Garden Lab Lamberhurst, Kent
Abigail BLUNT wife M 63 Heathfield, Sussex
Reuben ELLIS son U 28 Farm Lab Heathfield, Sussex
Edwin ELLIS son U 21 Farm Lab Goudhurst, Kent
Alfred FEATHERSTONE son in law M 19 Groom Ticehurst, Sussex
Frances FEATHERSTONE wife M 16 Goudhurst, Kent
Claphatch Cottage
43 Edward Albert FEATHERSTONE head M 27 labourer,Brenchley, Kent
Eliza Jane FEATHERSTONE wife 40, Frittenden, Kent
Claphatch Cottage (next dwelling)
44 George FEATHERSTONE head 43 labourer Brenchley, Kent
Mary FEATHERSTONE wife M 52 Hawkhurst, Kent
In the 1881 census there is a George FEATHERSTONE widower age 53 ag lab
birth place Brenchley, Kent living with his mother Frances FEATHERSTONE
widow 76 birth place Brenchley Kent at Yew Tree Green, Brenchley RG11 0922 -
so I don't think this George I found in the 1871 census is our George.
Sorry.

Hi all,
This is Naomi from Levin, NZ
Can anyone tell me if they have accessed the 1871 census for Ticehurst in
Sussex or
the 1891 census for Tunbridge WeIt might save me having to order them from
the FHC in Palmerston North.
Thanks,
Naomi
