Subject: [G] Digitilised records
The Scottish Census for 1891 will from this week be available in New
Register
House and satellite offices in a digitised form . Instead of computer
accessing just the indices you can view the actual census entry . The
Registrar General for Scotland announced also that they are working on
producing all records held by them in this format including the OPRs , other
Censuses and the statutory Births , Marriages and Deaths from their
commencement in 1855 .
I received the following from the US today which seems to indicate the way
genealogy research is now heading not only here but over the Pond .
Heritage Quest is going online with the entire US Census, all 12,555 rolls
of film. The U.S. Census from 1790 to 1920, fully digitised is going
online.
You can get more information at a demo during ALA in Chicago, on Saturday,
July 8, from 9:30 - Noon in the Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom E, or stop by
the Heritage Quest booth, #3625. It will be available by subscription to
libraries when it is up this Fall at:
GenealogyDatabase.com This is expected to be the largest data base of any
subject on the Internet.
