Dear Paul,
I have noticed your enquiry in "Family Quest" of "The Dalesman" and
thought that the following information, while not exactly geneological,
might be of interest.
Since 1969 I have lived in Ottawa on a street called Featherston
Drive. Back in 1997 a Dutchman, who believed that Featherstons were among
his ancestors, noticed my address in some magazine and wrote to me to ask if
I could enlighten him about the street name. From the City Archives I
learned that the street was created in the 1960s by joining together two
existing streets called Hargrave Avenue and Glenlawn Drive. The City Council
decided that since the "new" street would be a "feeder" for several small
residential streets it should have one name along its whole length and they
wanted a name of local historic significance. Accordingly, on 2 Aug 1962,
they decided to name it after J.P.Featherston, who had been Mayor of the
City of Ottawa in 1874 and 1875. If he is of interest to you, more
biographical information about him can be obtained from:
City of Ottawa Archives,
174 Stanley Avenue,

Ottawa, ON,

Canada K1M 1P1.

So far as I know there are no Fe(a)therston(e)s among my own
ancestors. The Dutchman's address in 1997 was:

Bryn Hird,

13A Laan van Roos en Doom

2514 BC

Den Haag

Netherlands

My own address is:

George Pullan,

1693 Featherston Drive,

Ottawa, ON. K1H 6P3

Canada.

Hope this will be of some interest to you.

Best wishes, George
