This is an interesting contact. Christopher Featherstone must have been an
important ecclesiastical dignitary to have been referred to as 'a Divine'.
This title was later used of the translators of the Bible in 1611, and is a
honorary for a graduate of Divinity (usually at Doctor level) from either
Oxford or Cambridge.

Calvin, probably the greatest of the Reformation theologians, had only died
in 1564, so this is a very early translation of the works into English.
Christopher Fetherstone's work therefore indicates that he was influential
among the early Puritans of Elizabeth I's reign.

Are there any biographical notes for him anywhere? He does not appear in my
'Dictionary of the Christian Church'. I suspect that his work influenced
many later Puritans, and his translation may well have brought Calvin to the
attention of many who would otherwise have had little access to the Latin
originals, which I understand are very difficult and involved, making
translation a complicated task. I have no Latin myself, so I go on hearsay
at this point.
