I can't remember whether I replied to this on list on Sunday, but Sar is
likely to be Sarre, an ancient village on the edge of the Island of Thanet,
about half way between Margate and Canterbury. Cantium was the Roman name
for Canterbury.

Isn't it something along the lines of 'Maria married firstly Jacob Tilden of
Sare then Thomas Fetherstone of the city of (?citizen of) Canterbury?
