It's nice to reply to an enquiry for a Yorkshire Featherstone.
A Harriet Featherstone aged 21 appears in the 1881 Census, still at home in
Roxby, with the occupation of dressmaker.
Parents George Featherstone, aged 53, a shoemaker.
Mother Harriet, aged 51.
Brother George, aged 15, apprentice shoemaker - presumably to his father.
Brother Robert, aged 12, scholar.
From the difference in age between Harriet, 21, and her brother George, 15,
there may have been another child. In the1881 Census - surname index, there
are several individual Featherstones scattered around the Roxby area, either
working on farms, or in service, who could be connected to this family. It
would be necessary to view the 1871 Census to see if these people formed a
family group.
If you want any further information an extract of Yorkshire Featherstones in
the 1881 Census was attached to the Featherstone Society Web site.
My Featherstones are based around Danby, Rosedale & Farndale.
