It appears that Klodz is Low German, Niederdeutsch, (to the north) and Klotz
is High German, Hochdeutsch (to the south). Klotz (according to Bahlow) is
also Klötzel (Kloetzel); clumsy, crude person, see Kloth. In America a clutz, I
suppose. In German the letters d, t, dt and th sound the same, at least to
our ears, so you are likely talking about the same name with regional spelling
differences - or evolutions. Or migrations.
