In an article in German Life in April/May 2006, James M. Beidler wrote about
German military records. He stated that the biggest problem with these
records is that an air raid resulted in many of them being burned, including
personnel rosters and card indexes of the Prussian Army, the transition
army, the Reichsweher, and the Imperial Navy. Mr. Beidler indicated that
some records survived, but are difficult to find unless you know the
regiment. My question is, to what extent did these records survive? How
much of them were actually burned? Are we talking 90% or 50% or what? Does
anyone in this group happen to know?
