I am looking for help searching out my FEIST ancestors. I have a FREDERICK married to Katherine HERMES, by whose son, WENDELIN (married to Wilhelmina Schmidt) I am descended. Wendelin was born 1878 in the Crimea. I have no dates for his parents.
Apparently the family had earlier emigrated from Baden/Bavaria/Schwarzwald (not sure which) in 1848. Wendelin and Mina had met and lived in Djamin (presentday name?) on the Crimea. Her father had been a (Music) teacher who moved there to work. They left Russia about 1908, landing in Canada about 1910 after some time in North Dakota.
They are Catholic as far back as I can tell but there is a family rumour that we may have Jewish roots. Can someone give me some meanigful direction.
For others ... I've not yet really checked them out but this site and other info may be of use:
www.icehouse.net/debbie/assets/multimedia/Rosental_1847-1865.htm
The Karl Stumpp book lists Feists from Kuppenheim/Rastatt-Ba going to Kroental, Crimea.
Thanks in advance,
Wayne J. Ottenbreit
