Hi,

Does anyone have anything on a Patrick Tierney, 87th regiment, Irish Fusileers, who was convicted on June 13, 1866 for assaulting an informer and unlike his soldier compatriots 'done' his time in Spike Island, Cork.. Apparently he attempted to escape in 1873 (and who would blame him!). However he was released on Dec 4 1878 and according to the New York Times (Thanks Marta) he was the second last fenian to be released.

My concernis are that apart from being a soldier, what did he do that apparently he was overlooked by a very rigourous Amnesty Association. I know that the last few prisoners were held in Irish Jails such as Kelly, O'Kelly and 2 or 3 others. But I have been reseaching the fenian prisoners both here (UK) and in Canada but Tierney as yet has not come across my path, or indeed to my recollection in any of the recommended reading for fenian researchers. Admittedly I have not had the opportunity to research Irish papers but the TImes was quite blatant in advertising what they done with their sildier/fenians. Any ideas? Anyone?

Kieran
