Ulster Scots were arriving here in the 1700's long before the Southern Irish
migration.
Many of the Ulster Scots were here to participate in the American Revolution
ON THE AMERICAN SIDE.
By the way, ULSTER is less than 20 miles from Scotland and the early kingdom
of Dalraida included Ulster and Southwest Scotland. King Fergus Mor Mac Erc
crossed from Ulster to Scotland and is considered the Father of the Kingdom
of Scotland (~500 A.D.) Therefore, Sons of Fergus (Fergusons) have probably
been in Ireland and Scotland at least since that time. 1100 years later
"modern" Fergusons were reintroduced to Ulster from Scotland by the Plantation
System., and it was these predominantly Presbyterian Fergusons who joined the
Ulster Scot (Scotch-Irish) migration to America and elsewhere in the 1700's.
Wouldn't it be great if the Ferguson DNA project would be able to sort out
these various Ferguson lines? (I've already sent my DNA sample.)
