Hi Colin,
I found something interesting this morning while still trying to find
something about Tillman Ferguson. His sister, Eliza Jane Ferguson,
married Francis Marion (Frank) Massey who was from Fort Worth, and was a
district judge here and then an appellate judge here in Tarrant Co.
Judge Massey was also interested in genealogy, and wrote 3 books on the
Massey family. My Catherine Gilmore and William Ferguson had Frances
Ferguson who married Thomas Spilman, and they were my 3rd
g-grandparents. Thomas Spilman's parents were Mary Massey and Thomas
Spilman, originally from King George Co., VA. They may have stopped by
Culpeper Co., VA on their way to what became Allen Co., KY. (The older
Thomas Spilman witnessed a deed for his brother in Culpeper Co., VA;
another witness to that deed was William FERGUSON, but I don't think
this was my William Ferguson.)
This morning I was searching on Rootsweb's Worldconnect, trying to find
more about James Ferguson and Agnes Adams. The databases I looked at
show that James was the son of Anne and James, Sr., and that James, Sr.
was the son of Ann Stubbleson and John Ferguson. I have no proof of
whether this is correct or not, but I assume it it.
This database I was using shows that Ann Stubbleson and John Ferguson
also had Samuel Ferguson who married Ann Brown. Ann and Samuel had Ann
Ferguson who married Francis Strother in Orange Co., VA, and they also
had Benjamin Ferguson. There was no further information on Benjamin
Ferguson.
Now, back to Tillman Ferguson - his mother was Lucetta Frances Bell,
born 22 Feb 1824, Orange Co., VA, according to another database. She
was the daughter of Frances Mary Newman and William Brockman Bell, both
born in Orange Co., VA.
I don't know where Ann Ferguson who married Francis Strother was from,
but they married in Orange Co., VA. Since Tillman Ferguson's Bell
grandparents were from Orange Co., VA, perhaps his Fergusons were from
there, too, and he is a descendant of Ann Stubbleson and John Ferguson,
and this is how Tillman's DNA matches descendants of James Ferguson.
I'm just guessing, but it might be a place to start looking.
Take care, and have a good weekend.
Best wishes,
Sharon
