I've found that information in the past. The Elijah named in this document
is either a son or grandson of Lewis. There is no doubt that Lewis
Ferguson is the son of John Ferguson of Culpeper. There is also no doubt
that Lewis had a brother named Elijah.

That Elijah, son of John of Culpeper, seems to fit my Elijah like a
glove. According to what my great-grandfather Benjamin Newton Ferguson
wrote, Elijah came from Virginia, was born in about 1775, and members of
his family fought in the Revolutionary War.

Elijah, the son of John of Culpeper, was too young to fight but his
brothers did and his father John was a patriot supplying food and clothes
to the troops. Elijah and his brothers disappeared from Culpeper after
1794 when John died. Lewis went to South Carolina, then after a few years
on eventually to Missouri.

My Elijah showed up in Wilkinson County, MS in 1806. He married Elizabeth
Jackson whose family had just come there from South Carolina. My
assumption is that Elijah went to SC with an older brother so didn't show
up in the rolls there other than as a male. My further assumption is that
he came to Wilkinson County, MS with the Jackson family since he married
Elizabeth Jackson as soon as she got there with her family.l

The thing that worries me now though is that John of Culpeper seemed to be
a fit with the John who was the son of James Ferguson which now has been
proven to be wrong. If John of Culpeper actually is the son of James
Ferguson son of John Ferguson of Essex, then the Elijah who was his son
wasn't my Elijah.
