I am David Ferguson, son of Dennis Dexter Ferguson who was born 1926 in Sneedville, TN (Hancock County). His father, Wint Herman Ferguson was the son of James Monroe Ferguson born 6/11/1867. James Monroe Ferguson had the following siblings: Mary Ferguson b. 1855, Lee Ferguson b 1859, Vestie Ferguson b unk, Joe Ferguson, Jr. b 1869, Tom Ferguson. The father of James Monroe Ferguson and his siblings was Joe Ferguson Sr., b. 1799 in NC.

I have met Enos and Wade Ferguson in person. Wade Ferguson looks exactly like my uncle Quinten.

Oral family history indicated that they emigrated from Scotland, however that is the link I have been looking for. Joe Ferguson Sr. was born in NC 1799 and apparently relocated to Hancock County cir. 1830 (according to census records).

The 1790 census for NC - Avery County NW section of North Carolina bordering TN shows the following Fergusons:

Nicholas Ferguson - 1 male child 1-16 yrs, 1 male child 16+ and 4 females.
Jeremiah Ferguson - 1 male child 1-16 yrs, 1 male child 16+, 1 female.
Joseph Ferguson - 1 male child 1-16 yrs, 3 male children 16+ and 4 females.
William Ferguson - 1 male child 1-16 yrs, 2 females
James Ferguson - 2 male children 1-16, 4 male children 16+ and 4 females.
Thomas Ferguson - 1 male child 1-16 yrs, 2 male children 16+, 1 female.
John Ferguson - 1 male child 1-16 yrs, 4 male children 16+, 4 females.

I would like to see if there is a possible link that Joe Ferguson Sr, b. 1799 could be one of the male child/children listed 1-16 years old. Then see if one or all of the Fergusons listed in the 1790 NC census emigrated from Scotland or Ireland.
