David,
Do you plan to do the DNA test? I have been looking for someone from
Joseph's line to do the test. I am descended from Andrew J Ferguson of
Hancock co, Tn and need to find out if they were related. andrew was born
ca 1800 and was married to Elizabeth Gray and a descendant has been tested.
In studying the other 2 matches to Andrew, we think that they came from
Wilkes co, NC. The 1830/40 census for Hawkins co (War Creek) show an Abner,
Joseph, George, and John Ferguson. All living next door or in close
proximity to Bennett Coffey, James Coffey, Benjamin Coffey, and a host of
others. Bennet Coffey married Sarah/Sally Ferguson in Wilkes co, NC. James
Coffee married Delilah Coffee in Wilkes co, NC The bondsman was a Moses
Ferguson who migrated to Bledsoe co, Tn and is believed to be brother to
Abner Ferguson who was on the Hawkins co census.
Tell me why you think Joseph came from Avery co, NC? Joseph was supposedly
married twice before he married Louisa/Elizabeth Carr. I would try to find
those names in NC, that might help to define the county further. You cn
e-mail me off list if you want.
