My name is Judith Faye Ferguson [Brown]. Since I have no brothers, my father, Paul DeVere Ferguson is deceased, and his four brothers, William, Frank, Lyle and Milburn are all deceased, I recently enlisted the help of my only male Ferguson cousin, Floyd, whose father was Frank. Although Floyd does not have a computer, he agreed to take the DNA test and authorized me to do the research on his behalf. I just received his results this week.
Our grandfather was Andrew Orr Ferguson and our great grandfather, Samuel Ferguson was born in Armagh, Northern Ireland. My father always made the strong point that he was "Scots Irish". Floyd's DNA seems to confirm that heritage as 10 of the 14 exact matches are from Scotland! Also, all 5 of the "One Step Mutation" are from Scotland. It seems that even though Samuel Ferguson was born when his parents lived in Northern Ireland, the family was very loyal to Scotland.
Samuel Ferguson settled in Delaware County, Iowa. Andrew Orr Ferguson and his family settled in Huron, SD where I was born. Floyd and his entire family still live in Huron.
If anyone has information on Samuel Ferguson's parents I would be most interested. I've checked the birth records in Armagh, Ulster, N. Ireland, but it seems that some of the church records are still in process of being transferred to their electronic database; so have come to a temporary obstacle.
