Peter, I knew I was jumping the gun. But you seemed like a miracle worker to
me. Thanks again. I will get back to my library searching.

Subject: [FERGUSON-DNA] FERGUSON-DNA Digest, Vol 3, Issue 43 - Patsi

Patsi,

Thank you, but I do have a vested interest. Over the years I too have had
help from others - not least the legions of volunteers who make records
available online..

Related ? not just yet ! The DNA results merely begin to act as a pointer
in a particular direction. At the moment we three participants match for 12
markers. An upgrade to more markers is likely to introduce some differences
- as is the case with Joseph Clarence & myself - effectively increasing the
timescale from the present back to a common ancestor from whom we have both
received our DNA . We are very grateful to Colin who has various technical
explanations for determining this timescale, but I' m sure he would agree,
these need not concern you yet - as we still need to find the documentary
evidence of any relationship. At the moment we have anything up to 150 years
or beyond to fill in.

Whilst all of us might like your donor to upgrade the number of DNA markers
so that more meaningful comparisons can be made, if that course of action
would be at the expense of obtaining documentary records, then please go for
the records, one step at a time.

Just to add a wee bit more:-
Robert Walter F died 7th Nov 1929. There are 3 references to notices/obits
[whatever] in The Times Picayune.
Arthur John F death 4th Sep 1937 has 2 entries in that newspaper
http://obits.gno.lib.la.us should enable you to find them.

I hope I haven't overwhelmed you - perhaps if you just deal with each
"problem" one step at a time. If ,once you have established James Henry's
parentage ,you would like more help with the Scottish side do let me know.

Many US Fergusons will be so envious that you have such a direct link across
the pond !

Peter
