Just a heads up here that has nothing to do with genealogy. You mentioned
that you have had lots of pop-ups since using a commercial computer at at
hotel. Most likely you picked up what is called spyware. It's a little
surprise package you get while visiting some web sites. What it does is
load a program onto your computer that activates every time you sign onto
the internet. It feeds back information to the website about what sites you
are visiting and then they can aim advertisements at you that you are likely
to be interested in. They also can compile mailing lists with your address
on it to sell. You get all sorts of ads that you don't want or need. It
slows down your computer's overall performance. I recommend that you
download a spyware software or two to look for and eliminate the pop ups.
There are two that I use Adaware and Spybot. They are freeware as long as
you are a personal user and not a business. If you like their product you
can give them a donation to help defray costs or you can buy their deluxe
model. I run both spywares at least once a week and download updates about
every two weeks.
Here is the address for Adaware:

here is the address for spybot:

They're both good products and user friendly.
Also just now there seems to be several Wurm viruses going around. They are
activated by attachments in email usually. Once the attachments are opened
the virus goes into your system and starts changing things and also they
harvest your email addresses. Then it proceeds to email on it's own, copies
of the virus to everyone in your address book. It's a good time to make
sure that your anti-virus is all up to date. Hope this helps, Angela

Hi Genevieve, I don't get the Fermanagh Gold Digest. I don't think you are
paranoid tho. I've had problems with signing on to my e-mail when using
MSN-hotmail. I have had to go through Internet Explorer. My ISP hasn't been
much help. I have a spam blocker and ever since I used a commercial computer
at the hotel where Rosemary and I stayed when on vacation I get pop-ups and
more e-mail advertisements for products for which I have no use and in which
I have no interest. Why?, Beats me. I don't think My Fermanagh Gold has been
effective, but I have taken notice.
