Thanks to everyone for their suggestions! Below is all the information
I have so far that touches Ireland; hopefully I can make more
connections soon. There seem to be several connections between the
John Armstrong family and the Christopher Armstrong family.
First Generation
—————————————————————————————————————————————
1. John ARMSTRONG.
John married Mary MORRISON. [Anecdotal: He and his father were millers
in Ballinamallard.]
They had the following children:
2i.Allan
3ii.Frank
4iii.Alexander (1813-1888)
5iv.Kate
6v.Ann
7vi.Margaret
8vii.William
Second Generation
—————————————————————————————————————————————
2. Allan ARMSTRONG.
Allan married Isabel IRVING?.
[Anecdotal: Allan was a Sergeant in the army, and served in the West
Indies. He
settled on Wolfe Island. He was a carpenter and married Isabel (nee
Irving?). One son went to California or Oregon. Allan Armstrong
was drowned in the St. Lawrence River while crossing from Miller's
Bay to Wolfe Island. His body was never found, but some weeks
afterward his wife found his cap on the shore. She knew it for
certain as his by the peculiar knot he used in tying some ribbon or
tape used on the cap.]
3. Frank ARMSTRONG. [Anecdotal: Frank was by occupation a miller,
following his father. He settled
in Joyceville, Ontario, formerly called Birmingham.]
4. Alexander ARMSTRONG. Born on 12 Feb 1813 in Enniskillen, County
Fermanagh, Ireland. Alexander died in Millen’s Bay, New York, USA, on 3
Jul 1888; he was 75. Buried in Cape Vincent, New York, USA. Occupation:
Farmer.
On 28 Mar 1832 when Alexander was 19, he married Ann ARMSTRONG,
daughter of Christopher ARMSTRONG & Mary WILSON, in Enniskillen, County
Fermanagh, Ireland. Born on 24 Jun 1811 in Enniskillen, County
Fermanagh, Ireland. Ann died on 16 Jun 1891; she was 79.
[Anecdotal: Alexander Armstrong came from Queenstown, Ireland on the
sailing
vessel "Ulster", 1832, to Montreal. Landed in April, 7 weeks and 3
days on the way. There were 27 (some accounts say 24) deaths during
the voyage, mostly children and aged people. After landing in
Quebec, they came up the river on small Durham boats drawn by horses
on shore or propelled by horsetread which turned the big paddle
wheels.
Note: The only passenger ship "Ulster" I have found as yet only notes a
passage in 1831.]
They had the following children:
9i.Christopher David (1842-1875)
10ii.Mary
11iii.Mary Ann (1833-)
12iv.Margaret (1834-1883)
13v.Sarah Jane (1836-1881)
14vi.John (1838-)
15vii.William Allen (1840-1920)
16viii.Bessie (1844-1844)
17ix.Alexander (1849-1940)
18x.Ann (1851-1853)
19xi.Charles
5. Kate ARMSTRONG.
6. Ann ARMSTRONG.
7. Margaret ARMSTRONG.
On 3 Jun 1823 Margaret first married John LIDDY.
They had the following children:
20i.Elizabeth (1824-1863)
21ii.John (1826-1847)
22iii.James (1828-)
23iv.Mary Ann (1828-1889)
Margaret second married David ARMSTRONG, son of Christopher ARMSTRONG &
Mary WILSON.
They had the following children:
24i.Alexander
25ii.Christie
26iii.Frank
27iv.Margaret
28v.Jane
29vi.Sarah Belle
30vii.Katherine
31viii.Rebecca
8. William ARMSTRONG.
If any of these are of interest, I have more information on Alexander
(4) and Margaret (7)'s lines.
Best,
Karin
